Solar Panel Review: LG NeON™ 2 Black 300W & SolarWorld Sunmodule Plus SW 280-290W Mono Black
Here at Endless Energy we offer a wide variety of solar panels that excel in efficiency and warranty needs while supporting your own values. Whether you want a North American made all black panel or want less panels without sacrificing power production, we have you covered. This review takes four categories into account:
• Warranty
• Roof Aesthetics
• Efficiency
• Physical Durability
Warranty
LG NeON™ 2 has an umbrella 25 year linear performance warranty / 12 year product warranty
Wait – What is a linear performance warranty?
A linear performance warranty guarantees a maximum performance reduction of a fixed percentage over a period of 25 years. This means that the guaranteed performance of the solar panel is higher throughout the 25 years than with the standard tiered guarantee, which provides added value to your warranty. Today the linear performance guarantee is used by most manufacturers.
SolarWorld supplies an umbrella 25 year linear performance warranty / 10 year product warranty; that is two years less on the product warranty side compared to LG, and the first year guaranteed performance percentage is 97%, which is slightly less than LG’s 98% (found on their respective sites).
Roof Aesthetics
Sleek black panels blend perfectly into most roof elevations on your roof and can virtually disappear as a silent, sleek and extremely beneficial energy savings partner.
Black on black solar panels are designed with aesthetics in mind; thinner wires that appear all black at a distance. The product may increase the value of a property with its modern design, from the cells and the frame to the module corners.”
Efficiency
At the time of the release of this article the best achieved sunlight conversion rate, also known as “solar module efficiency,” is around 21.5%
Taking that into account the following percentages will be far more impressive.
The Efficiency rating is 18.3% for the LG NeON™ 2 Black 300W
The SolarWorld SW 280 is 16.7% SW 285 17.0% and SW 290 is 17.3%, almost all of them more than 1% less than the LG rating.
Physical Durability
With any of your investments outside you worry if it can withstand harsh weather conditions. Solar panels are tough.
For example today;s top tier modules are designed to withstand a front load up to 6000 Pa (Pascals, or units of pressure or stress) and a rear load up to 5400 Pa. Now to put into more common terms the brutal 2005 Hurricane Katrina’s max speed was around 170 mph, and 208 mph = 5400 Pa, which is the rear load measurement – almost 50 mph of buffer compared to the speed of one of the worst Hurricanes to hit the Gulf Coast. “Proven resistance to extreme environmental factors: tested resistance to salt spray, frost and hail-proof, resistant to ammonia, dust and sand.”
Summary
Both solar panels boast fantastic warranties, aesthetics, efficiency and durability and very close in efficiency, making price point, application and personal choice options best discussed with your solar energy adviser.
